Died suddenly and without premonition at Louisville, Ky., on Friday evening, December 26, 1873, Mrs. Catharine Mack, mother of James T. and Samuel Mack of this city.
The Louisville Courier-Journal speaking of her death says an intimate friend, who has been well acquainted with her for many years, was conversing with her within less than an hour of the calamitous event, and he says he never saw her in more perfect health, nor in finer spirits. She was in her room with her son, remarked to him that she felt strangely, and fell dead. Whether the seizure was apoplectic or from disease of the heart is uncertain. The latter is very unlikely. There is not one of the great numbers of persons who knew Mrs. Mack who would feel that the terms of ordinary eulogy expressed their sense of her great virtues. She was quiet, unobtrusive and gentle in all her intercourse with others; to all who knew her she was a perpetual fountain of blessings.
Mrs. Mack had for many years been a member of the Presbyterian Church and was earnestly devoted to her religious duties. Though the final summons came upon her suddenly, without warning, she was prepared for it, and she fell asleep peacefully, without a struggle or a pain.
She leaves three sons and one daughter, and she reached the age of 62 years only fourteen days before her death.
Her remains were brought to this city Monday evening and Tuesday morning they were interred at the Odd Fellows’ Cemetery-s
